Cleft
Rhinoplasty In Mumbai
Cleft Rhinoplasty in Mumbai is a plastic surgery that reshapes the nose of a patient who has cleft lip and cleft palate. Cleft Rhinoplasty is a complex plastic surgery as compared to a regular rhinoplasty/nose job.
What is a Cleft Rhinoplasty ?
A hollow area or cavity in the roof of the mouth characterises a cleft lip and palate. The large separation of the palatal shelves and the gap in the nose’s floor both negatively impact the nose’s growth and shape. The shape and development of the nose are seriously impacted by the abnormality, which is from intrauterine life.
The nose’s functionality is also impacted by this, in addition to how the face looks.
Cleft rhinoplasty in Mumbai is a procedure that reshapes the nose to rectify abnormalities brought on by the cleft lip/cleft palate birth condition.
In most cases, when the initial surgery to correct a cleft lip is carried out, a primary surgical treatment is also carried out to restore the shape of the nose. The nose looks even and symmetrical following this surgery, showing rapid benefits. However, due to the presence of previous surgical scars, lingering abnormal shape in the nasal tip cartilage, nasal bones, and nasal septum, and the growth of the nose appearing uneven and abnormal during the growing years, a secondary (definitive) rhinoplasty may be required. Secondary cleft rhinoplasty is typically done when the facial growth has finished between the ages of 18 and 20 as both females and males age at different stages.
Due to the presence of scar tissues from previous surgeries to treat cleft lip and cleft palate, cleft rhinoplasty is a difficult treatment to do. This is the reason the cleft rhinoplasty surgeon must be extremely careful when doing the treatment.
Who Is An Ideal Candidate For Cleft Rhinoplasty In Mumbai ?
- There must be one year of a gap between the previous surgery and seeking consultation for cleft rhinoplasty in Mumbai.
- If the candidate is not satisfied with the results of previous surgery or unhappy with the appearance of your nose in any way,
- If the candidate wants to improve your breathing in case if he/she has impaired or smaller nasal airway due to cleft lip and cleft palate.
- The candidate must be physically and mentally healthy.
- The candidate must be a non-smoker or at least ready to give up smoking for the time period prescribed by Dr. Manwani.
- The candidate should have realistic expectations and goals from the surgery.
If you fit into the criteria given above, then you are an ideal candidate and can receive cleft rhinoplasty.
How Is The Nose Affected Due To Cleft Lip Or Cleft Palate?
Some of the problems associated with a deformed nose due to cleft lip and cleft palate are:
1) The appearance of the face is greatly affected as the nose appears disproportionate with the rest of the face.
2) There is a chance of impaired nasal airflow
3) In the case of unilateral cleft lip or cleft palate, the nasal airway is smaller.
Cleft Lip Rhinoplasty addresses the functional and cosmetic problems arising due to the deformity.
How Is Cleft Rhinoplasty In Mumbai Performed ?
- Dr. Manwani uses an open approach to cleft rhinoplasty in Mumbai because the open approach allows direct visualization of the nasal cartilages.
- Open rhinoplasty requires a small incision in the columella (the skin between the nostrils) through which the skin of the nose is elevated off of the underlying cartilage and bone. This incision typically heals with an imperceivable scar.
- During surgery, the skin is elevated from the underlying cartilage and bone. Depending on the strength and position of the cartilage and bone and the goals of surgery, a variety of maneuvers are used to reshape the nose and improve breathing.
- The graft material is needed in every cleft rhinoplasty to change the shape of the nose. Cartilage from the nasal septum is the easiest site to get cartilage grafts from, and the nasal septum usually requires straightening during the procedure.
- A large amount of graft material is needed to reshape the nose in cleft rhinoplasty because the skin and soft tissues are very scarred and stiff.
- After the desired changes in shape are achieved the nose is closed with fine stitches.
- At the end of surgery soft splints may be placed inside your nose to support the nasal septum. Soft splints are frequently used on the outside of the nose also to help shape the skin.
- Tapes and a splint are placed over the nasal bridge to support and protect the nose for 7 days.
Your Recovery After Cleft Rhinoplasty In Mumbai
You’ll need to take a week off, and it’s recommended that you do as little as possible.
Following surgery, you might experience pain, swelling, and dark blue marks under your eyes.
Dr. Manwani will prescribe painkillers, but it will take a few days for the marks to go away and a few weeks for the swelling to go down.
After seven days, splints and sutures are taken out.
Additionally, you will be told not to engage in any strenuous physical activity for the first three weeks. These limitations won’t need to be observed after six weeks.
